Aerogel preparation process The aerogel preparation process mainly includes three important steps, because the aerogel application design is based on its performance.
(1) Solution to sol process: Nanoscale colloidal particles are formed in a uniform precursor solution by polycondensation and hydrolysis reactions, or catalyzed by a catalyst.
(2) Sol-to-gel process (gel): The sol particles are joined by hand and layered into a wet gel having a continuous network structure.
(3) Gel-to-aerogel process (drying): During this process, the solvent in the wet gel is replaced by air without serious microstructural damage.
