Stone Roll Description

In the papermaking process, a stone roll is a critical component of the paper machine. The stone roll, also known as a granite roll or a Yankee dryer, is a large cylindrical drum made of solid granite or other hard materials. It is used to dry and smooth the surface of the paper as it passes through the machine.
The stone roll is typically located at the end of the paper machine, where it receives the wet paper web from the press section. The paper web is then pressed against the surface of the stone roll, which is heated by steam to a temperature of up to 350°F (177°C). The heat and pressure applied to the paper by the stone roll causes the water to evaporate, drying the paper and smoothing its surface.
