Concepts of material selection for Natural rubber and elastomers.

Selecting the type of material to be used for slurry pumping application is not a predise procedure.The procedure must account for all  of the variable characteristics of the particular slurry and take into account the constraints imposed by the following:

1)Type of the pump

2)pump speed

3) options within the range of teh models available. The basic date required to make a selection of the type of material:

The particle sizing of the solids to be pumped.

2) the shape and hardness of these solids and

3)the corrosive properties of teh liquid transport component of the slurry to be pumped.

The material selection for the pump liners and impellers is made from two basic types of material

Elastomers and

wear/erosion resistant cast alloys.

ELASTOMERS

The criterial for selection of the three more commonly used elastomers are

Natural rubber、R55 Natural Rubber Slurry Pumps

Excellent erosion resistance for liners(against solids up to 1/2 inch size) but limited to particles of 1/4 inch size for impellers.

May not be suitable for very sharp edged solids

May be damaged by oversized solids or tramp.

Impeller peripheral speed should be less than 5400ft/min. to avoid the thermal breakdowun of the liner adjacent to the outer edge of the impeller.(Special formulation are available to allow speeds up to 5900ft/min. In certain cases)

Unsuitable for oils solvents or strong acids

Unsuitable for temperature in excess of 170℉。
