Antifoam/Defoamer

Fatty alcohols (C7 – C22) were effective antifoam/defoamer. 

They were added to oil products to boost the efficiency. Milk and cream were forebears for modern day emulsion type defoamers.

Antifoam (also known as defoamer) is applied in very wide fields:

•      Pulp and paper industry

•      Water treatment

•      Oilfield industry

Antifoam spreads out replacing the foaming molecules on foam bimolecular film and forms low intensity film.

Antifoam takes away part of the solution near surface layer during spreading out and foam layer gets thinner, which decrease the stability of foam and make it easy to break the foam.
